We continue to hear and read about different manufacturing facilities closing or downsizing here in the US. According to the US Census Bureau, we have a historical record of trade deficit in the US. The trade deficit is not even close, and has not been for sometime. We had a $39.7 Billion deficit for the month of February 2010.
What this means is Americans are buying $39.7 billion more goods and service than we sale. This is one of the largest contributor for the decline of manufacturing in the US. This long term deficit has contributed to our current unemployment situation and the foundation of the US economy.
Many politician would like to move to a service industry instead of manufacturing, however many foreign competitors are now absorbing those jobs as well. The idea of "free" trade would be great if everyone was playing ball with the same rules. Many foreign competitorts are not subject to the laws and regulations of the companies here in the states. They often have little of no regulations on enviroment safety.
