According to the Lexington Herald Leaders, California's only automotive manufacturing closed it's doors on Thursday April 1, 2010, this is another example of how manufacturing jobs are leaving our country. This Toyota plant employed 4700 employees at their Nummi plant. It will take allot of small companies, to employee all these people.
The town and surrounding towns will be effected economically for many years due to this plant closure. It will take many small business and several technological companies to move into this area to employee the same number of people, if these companies and small business so choose to locate to this area.
This plant closure will effect the housing market in this area as well. The value of the property will drop significantly, many folks will left owing more on their homes than the market value, thus little chance to sale and relocating to a different area the a greater opportunity of employment.
This plant had long term employees that will need to be trained in other areas to reenter the work force.
